Szentendre

Szentendre
Just a short train ride from Budapest, Szentendre is a small town that packs a big punch. Located on the banks of the Danube, this place has serious artistic cred - it's been a hub for artists since the early 20th century, and now boasts more galleries and museums than you'd expect for its size.
The town's charm comes from its colorful buildings and narrow, winding streets that make you feel like you've stepped back in time. The Serbian influence is clear in the architecture, as many Serbs settled here in the 17th century when fleeing Ottoman rule. You can spot this influence in the seven Orthodox churches scattered throughout the town.
Szentendre's main square (Fő tér) is the heart of the action, surrounded by pastel-colored buildings and outdoor cafes. The Marzipan Museum might sound kitschy, but it's actually pretty cool to see the incredibly detailed sculptures made entirely of marzipan.
If you're into shopping, the streets are lined with artisan shops selling handmade crafts, ceramics, and textiles. When you need to refuel, try lángos - a traditional Hungarian fried dough topped with sour cream and cheese - from one of the street vendors. It's a perfect day trip that offers a different flavor of Hungary compared to bustling Budapest.
